A fluid mechanics analysis of the PISA-method

چکیده

The PIS A-method, Proximal Isovelocity Surface Area, is a method for quantifying regurgitant flow through the mitral valve. The volumetric flow is calculated as the velocity at the center line times the iso-vehcity area. Unfortunately, this method is correct only for a non-viscous fluid flowing towards an orifice with zero radius. In order to study effects from a viscous fluid as well as influences from an orifice with a finite radius, the PISA-method is modelled and analysed using computer simulations. The computer model may also be used to investigate possible influences from the design of an experimental model.
